Save money in clothing

Why do people show off their wealth?

There may be many reasons, but ultimately, some people think that their money, clothings, phones, computers, cars, and their possessions are what makes them important, valuable, loved. They don’t see that regardless of their wealth, they are priceless. If all the glitter, fame and power were stripped away and they were just left with who they were, how can they impress anyone else? What makes them special? There is no self-love. If a person doesn’t love themselves, they don’t know how anyone else could. So they identify external things that provide the illusion of control and value, and use that for their self-worth.

In this article in Save money, we will discuss about saving money in clothings.

  1. Buy a few good quality things instead of many cheap ones. Own good shoes and a good watch.
  2. For clothing, tap into your local free group. Try Nextdoor, Freecycle, Trash Nothing or Buy Nothing, or start your own local group.
  3. Check thrift stores, especially small, local ones run by service clubs, and garage sales.
  4. Ignore brands and look for things that fit you and suit you.
  5. Consider a uniform (think Steve Jobs) or capsule wardrobe.
  6. Get basic items that you can dress up or down.
  7. Go for classic styles, not chasing fashions.
  8. Maintain your things so they last.

For skin care and especially makeup

Protect your skin from too much sun. I like a basic moisturizer, too. If you’re into makeup, learn to do your own and keep it relatively basic. Find a core group of products that work for you and then don’t overbuy a bunch of stuff you don’t use often. Trim, shape, and if desired paint your own nails.

Find a haircut that works for you, and find an affordable place to cut it. Learn to use trimmer and a good pair of scissors. Learn to style and maintain your hair, but don’t go overboard on products or gizmos.

Do not visit the doctor or dentist for regular checkups. It’s much easier to keep what you have than to rebuild it.

Attend to the details. Learn to tie a tie if you wear one, but also learn to size and tuck in your shirt so it’s straight and it doesn’t bunch or billow. Figure out what colors work with your complexion. Figure out what goes with what in your wardrobe. Figure out what’s right for different occasions. You’ll dress differently for a beach picnic than for attending a formal wedding.

Carry yourself with quiet confidence. It’s more in how you act than in what things you possess that tip people off about your money status.
